Johnny and I are sitting here with a young guy we met on the bus last night, just hearing his story. In our short time here we’ve had countless opportunities to interact with people. Some people want to be prayed for, some of them have never heard about Jesus, some of them just want to share their story and have someone listen, others are already followers of Jesus but need some encouragement. We’ve met homeless people, vacationers, and locals. All of them are loved by God. All of them are being pursued by their Creator, the one who loves them in a way that transforms lives.
Johnny preached on the street yesterday, and shared his heart with the people walking by. Things didn’t go as he expected, but God did something that none of us could have fabricated, it was plainly Jesus at work. Right after Johnny spoke, a young lady from a local Bible study group was hanging out and listening. She had never shared her testimony publicly, she didn’t have public speaking experience, but she was compelled by the love of Christ for the people on the streets and she shared the gospel with everyone right there.

Let me paint the scene for you: She’s 24 years old, almost 9 months pregnant, just standing in the middle of the busiest patch of concrete in all of Huntington, right by the pier and next to the Main street of downtown. She shared the gospel in such a raw, real way and people’s hearts were impacted. A lady wanted to talk to her right after she finished preaching, and they prayed together. It was just a simple act of love, and it was so amazing to be a part of it.
Well, I want to write more but I need to run. Lots of love! jenni + Johnny

The past five weeks have gone by so fast, I think my head is spinning. Between my attempts to process everything I’ve been learning, letting things really sink deeply into my heart, as well as shifting my actions to reflect what God has done in me, and all the while thinking about the DTS we’ll be running with this September, and simultaneously packing and getting ready to travel for a short outreach to Orange County, it’s enough to make a girl dizzy. But it’s all very exciting and so beautifully orchestrated by the Lord. I love it. This is such a special season.
We’ve just wrapped up five weeks of lecture as a Circuit Riders school. Johnny and I were part of the staff team and it was a tremendous privilege. A group of 300 men and women, hearing from so many gifted speakers every day, and of course our hearts have been transformed in so many ways. Andy Byrd and Brian and Christy Brennt were often sharing their hearts with us (my voice has never been so hoarse, as we always instantly applied what was taught which usually involved praying aloud, and in a room of hundreds of people you have to talk kinda loud in order to hear yourself pray). And our guest speakers included Ray Hughes, Jackie Pullinger, and Lou Engle. By the way, if you want to hear the amazing podcasts from our lecture times, go Here. Totally free to download. Totally worth listening to, as well.
So, Johnny and I have a couple days in Kona and then we fly to the West coast. We’ll be in Orange County, California for a week before we head back here. If you’re in the OC area, let us know! We aren’t sure of all the details of our schedule yet, but we’d love to see some friends while we’re on the mainland.
Also, just a fun update, in the past couple weeks Johnny has had the opportunity to play with the worship team here. It’s something God has been directing him to do more of, so it was great that he was invited to do so on a few occasions!
See photos below.

Hello! Just another quick post about what’s going on here in Kona. We are now in the middle of a full week of Staff Training, getting ready to staff the School of the Circuit Riders which begins here next Thursday. So far there are 275 students accepted. It’s a five-week seminar focused on training leaders to first have personal breakthrough, then go to the nations with the message of the gospel, and the transformational love of Jesus. On the Circuit Riders website it says, “A generation is responding like perhaps never before in history. Confident in who Christ has called them to be and what He has given them, they go forth proclaiming freedom to the captives. Knowing the living God through deep friendship and trust in His Word, they gladly lay down their lives…” It’s such an exciting thing to be a part of! We have friends from all over coming to take this course. We know God is going to move so powerfully!

We are so privileged to get to be part of all that’s going on here this summer. Pray with us that God will even now be preparing our hearts and the hearts of those who will be joining us here. Also, running at the same time as the Circuit Riders school is a two-week camp for high-school age youth, called Infusion here in Kona. Our good friend Jake Mason is leading this camp, and we are so excited about what God is going to do through him and through this ministry. The Awaken DTS will also be going on here all summer and we are so thrilled with the way things are coming together for this school. They have an incredible staff team and will lead their students so effectively. In the past, the summer quarter here in Kona has been a lot more mellow, and has had a lot less people around, but not the case this year! We are expecting a major movement of God, and it’s exciting to be part of it.

Seems as if we will always be learning, forever discovering, and our journey of development is never ending. As for the two of us, we want to be lifelong learners. Life is definitely more fulfilling this way.

Just wanted to share some (random) things I’ve been learning lately (this is jenni writing, by the way).
Maybe you’re learning some of the same stuff?

❶God’s love is better than life. It’s just simple truth. For further reading, take a look at Psalm 63. ❷If I ever were to be wrongly accused of a crime and put in prison, my husband would always believe in and fight for my innocence. Or, bust me outta there. Ok, I might have watched a movie on the airplane with a similar storyline, but it’s something worth thinking about and I have arrived at the aforementioned conclusion. ❸Time with family is precious. Well, we already knew that, but it’s great to be reminded! ❹ I won’t truly learn how to do something well unless I try it, repeatedly. Cooking, photography, um… freestyle rapping, or even my blogging won’t improve unless I put in the time. True ‘dat. ❺Spending time “just the two of us” can be really fun on the cheap. Like a picnic. But it’s also really fun to be more extravagant, from time to time. Like staying at a Bed and Breakfast. ❻Reading lots of Bible verses in one sitting can sometimes be a challenge for my attention span and I often end up distracted by other things. But reading verses while immediately writing them in my journal has shown to be more effective for me, and I become quite engaged with what God is saying. ❼The things which I desire most in this life are not material things, money, fancy dishes in my kitchen, gourmet chocolate…nope. But it’s authentic relationship with God and with people. I want to know God’s heart, forever deepening my friendship with him, and I want the same for those around me.

Well, that was fun to write! Feel free to leave a message telling us the things that you are learning. We’d love to learn with you.

We got back to Kona (maybe about a week-and-a-half ago…sorry for not writing sooner!) and we’re feeling delightfully warm once again. Here are some fun things we’ve been a part of lately:

☐ School of Photography~ jenni is fervently writing notes in class each day and snapping photos left and right (long story, but the short of it is that she is taking a 12 week Photography course on our campus, is currently in week 2, and is loving it so much!)
☐ DTS leadership~ Johnny is spending his days really pressing in and making amazing progress in the development of our campus’ DTS department. He really pours so much of his heart into this place on a daily basis.
☐ Lots of time with Beth and our nephews~ right now Beth’s husband Jeff is doing some traveling and visiting some of the DTS Outreach teams that are currently on the field, so we have been stopping by to see her and our nephews every chance we get, enjoying meals together, and looking for opportunities to take the boys on fun outings (last Saturday was a beach trip!).
☐ Baking Wheat-Free Bread~ Johnny found a good recipe online and I’ve been making home-made bread lately. Still perfecting the details, but enjoying the process!

Just a tiny glimpse into our world. We love what we get to do! Write us or call us anytime and let us know what you’re up to so far in this new year!

Blessings…

Jenni and I have so deeply enjoyed these last two weeks in Australia with the crew at YWAM Townsville and Slingshot! We’ve had the privilege of hearing from some fantastic speakers – men and women of God who have walked the walk for much longer than we’ve been alive. The wisdom and passion that has kept them on the path following Jesus for so many years is so evident!

In one of the lectures this week a question was raised which has continued to cycle through my thoughts and challenge my heart. It’s the question of how we in the missionary community can communicate in a way that doesn’t estrange people from Jesus, without simultaneously losing the passion (and offense) that comes with the Gospel.

I have to admit, I didn’t like the message initially. Those of you who know me understand that if I tend in one direction on this, I tend to be a hothead: I have opinions, I know why I hold them, and I can easily and clearly articulate them. I don’t want to ever be inconsistent, and I know that we preach “Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles” – 1 Cor 1:23. I believe the Kingdom is forcefully advancing, and I desire to be one who fearlessly declares this beautiful message of Jesus and a Father’s love. His message is an offense, and to skirt around the contentious issues is to water down the message.

But are there ways we can communicate gently, are there ways we can avoid unnecessary offense, are there ways we can protect the ministry and rapport that our co-workers have build, are there ways we can uphold the message and be beyond reproach in our communication? I am challenged that yes, we can do that. Some good guidelines are as follows:

1) Check your motivation

2) Walk in integrity

3) Use wisdom

4) Be bold! (I like the last part)

Communicating poorly about a good thing is like enjoying ice cream in front of someone who doesn’t have any, and not sharing. Any. At all.

Just sitting here in our Slingshot classroom, after an amazing evening class, and I’m talking to some other YWAM staff (who serve in Fiji and New Zealand) about how much I enjoy blogging. It’s amazing how our stories can be communicated along with photos, videos, links to other sites, etc… and all of it instantly available to my friends, family, (and maybe strangers) across the world. Incredible.

So, here are a few sites that I really, really love checking frequently.
Just click on any that interest you!

Diane’s Blog: Nature vs. Culture

Lindye Galloway Events

Check out Jeff and Beth’s blog, our sister and brother-in-law!

Our friends, Liam and Rachel, working in South Africa

My friend Katie is really funny, and really talented.
Check out her blog, and her new Web Site too!

Josh Fletcher photographed our wedding, almost two years ago. He is unreal.

And one I just discovered today: Brookelyn Photography. Glory.

(Just took this photo of me and Julie Anna with my computer’s camera,
while we talk about blogging.)
