Walking with God and the first week of 3GS
At first this photo looks a lot like just another photo of us down at the lake with some friends, but it’s actually the beginning of a wonderful story of God and his goodness, one which I’m stoked to share with you today!
I love the way God leads us, and the way he is so much more than willing to use us just as long as we are willing. Sometimes that really is all it takes! Jenni and I over the first almost nine months of our marriage have been in a continuous process of seeking out God’s heart for our life together, and seeking to learn to hear God’s voice and respond in radical relationship with him!
In the photo with us are our good friends Amy and Ben, who came all the way down from Calgary to spend the weekend with us! We had so much fun, but what I really want to tell you about is behind the picture – well, behind the camera.
We were having a wonderful time together down on the Lakeside dock last night, and we wanted a picture to commemorate the special day we’d had together, so I asked a teenage dude who was standing there if he’d like to take the photo. He was happy to (and the results were pretty good – as you can see!), and we chatted to him for a couple of minutes. Turns out he’s local, and loves to spend the summer at the dock!
We thought nothing more of it.
Until church this morning. We went to Fresh Life church in Kalispell (nothing to do with YWAM), as we have been doing the last few weeks, and who should be sitting in the row across the aisle from us, but teenage dude and his parents! At the end of the service, being the friendly people God has made us, we went over to say hi, met Daniel (teenage dude), his younger brother, and parents! We got to talking (as you do), and in due time they asked where we were from and what we do. Of course we were stoked to tell them that we work with the UofN in Kona with the DTS department.
Then this is where it gets cool.
Both parents suddenly got a stoked surprised look on their faces, and said something like “Wow! Our older son Jordan is applying to do a DTS there this fall, and will go if he can sell his house!”. We were stoked, and asked if we could be introduced, so they tracked him down outside church and we met Jordan, who is in the midst of his application process to come to Compassion DTS this fall in Kona!
What really got us about this little hook-up though, is that Jordan said that just this morning, as he was sitting in church, he was feeling really discouraged about DTS, because his house isn’t selling, and he was beginning to wonder if applying was the right thing to do. Not only that, but because he was feeling that way, he had prayed and had felt the Lord had said that he should go ahead and finish his application, and that the Lord had given him real peace about it! Then, ‘by chance’, we met him! We then talked for a few minutes, and arranged to meet up later this week to talk through his DTS options, and pray with him!
It’s just a little story, and one that has only really just begun, but it’s one exciting example of a way the the Lord can use us if we’re only willing to respond to him – it may be as simple as asking someone to take a photo of you, or going over to say hi to someone you don’t even know. We feel that the Lord ordained that we should be in the right place at the right time, so that Jordan would be encouraged, and so we’d be able to walk through this process with him! May God continue to use us and you for his glory on this earth!

On another note, I’ve had the iPhone 3GS for just over a week now, and somewhat like that Sea-doo a couple weeks ago, it’s truly a revelation and one of the marvels of the information age. The original iPhone was an amazing tool, but the 3GS has taken something wonderful and made it truly extraordinary. I want to post more details on my thoughts later, but for now it’s getting late and I need to head to bed! Blessings!

iphones and cool people…YAY GOD!
Sweet son-o-mine! LOVED your entry!! I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that I got all choked up when I read it. Seriously, our God is amazing and you guys indeed had a divine appointment scheduled with Daniel (teenage dude), his family and most importantly, Jordan. But the most beautiful part of it all was that you didn’t even know about your appointment until it smacked you in the face! LOL. I love how you and Jenni are always on the lookout for such opportunities from God. I am so thankful God chose YOU especially for Jenni and I look forward to reading more wonderful entries such as this one!! Thank you Father!!! You ROCK, God!
I know I should not be amazed, but I am at times as to how God works in our lives. I know this is just the beginning of this friendship with Jordon. Praise God that you were there, and available and willing to be used of God. Love ya,
Beautiful story Johnny, I love hearing about the adventures you & Jenni have “further down the road”!
Awesome story of divine meeting! I came across your site from the link on Liam Byrnes blog and thought I’d read a post or two. Funny thing is we just decided (a few months ago) to go to YWAM Kona in September and we also need our house to sell
I know what Jordan’s going through!
I hope you were able to pray with Jordan and encourage him!
By the way did you ever meet, Melodie and Jed Aho my bro-in-law and sis?
